The Silvesterlauf in Giessen is a New Year’s Eve tradition: hundreds of runners heading out under the Sparkasse start arch to finish the year on their feet. The organisers asked us for a finisher medal that felt as cheerful as the event itself.
For the 2023 edition we made two designs: a die-cut medal shaped around a sprinting runner with the “Silvester Lauf · LAZ Giessen” mark in red and grey, and a round medal with the Giessen skyline and a sponsor panel. Both use crisp printed colour on a polished base, so they stand out in photos taken on a grey December afternoon.
Why a winter run medal is different
End-of-year races are about the moment, not the time on the clock. A clear year mark, a bold logo and a ribbon in the event colours matter more than fine detail — they’re what people look at when the medal comes out of the drawer next December.
Beyond the medal
Annual events like this are a great fit for collectible extras. Many organisers add a yearly lapel pin or a custom keychain so regulars can build a set over the years.
